DETAILS:
Initially developed for their resistance to heat, water, and oil, PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) have been widely used in various industrial applications and consumer products, from firefighting foams to non-stick cookware. However, in recent years, concern over the long-term effects of PFAS has led to an exponential increase in litigation surrounding them, leading some legal and insurance experts to predict that PFAS could be “the next asbestos”. The PFAS issue has mostly been a concern in the casualty insurance and reinsurance markets. Still, PFAS also has uses in the maritime industry, causing many in the Marine insurance sector to wonder, “Should we be worried, too?”
Join the AIMU as we present Tim Fletcher, VP, Senior Emerging Issues Specialist at Gen Re, William Luce, Director- Hull and Liability, Intact Insurance Ocean Marine, and Lincoln Purdy, CPCU, AMIM, Vice President, Starr Marine, for a Lunch N Learn presentation on PFAS, its impact on insurance markets, and what impacts PFAS exposures may have on Marine Liability insurance.
