
AIMU is proud to mark the 11th year of our annual Volunteer Day with the New York Harbor School on Governors Island. This long-standing tradition remains a fun and rewarding experience for all involved, combining service, teamwork, and a great day outdoors in a unique setting.
Location: Governors Island, NY (ferry departs/returns to the Battery Maritime Building, 10 South St. – just north of the Staten Island Ferry terminal building)
Number of participants: We can accommodate a maximum of 30 volunteers.
What to Wear: Clothes you don't mind getting dirty, closed-toed shoes, and a hat. Wearing light colors that reflect the sun's rays helps keep you cool.
Bring: Reusable water bottle and sunscreen. We encourage participants to bring work gloves if you have them, otherwise they will be provided.
SCHEDULE
9:15am – arrive at Governors Island ferry terminal
9:30am – ferry departs to GI
9:45am – morning volunteer projects (TBA)
12:00pm – lunch
1:00pm – afternoon volunteer projects (TBA)
3:30pm – Happy Hour at Island Oyster
4:30pm – ferry returns to Manhattan*
Governors Island ferries now return to Manhattan every 30 minutes on the half hours until 10pm, volunteers are welcome to stay on the Island and take a later ferry back.
Fee: $25
Each attendee needs to complete the online registration form at Billion Oyster Project Volunteer Day Sign-up
Cancellations: Full refunds will be given if cancellations received 72 hours prior to the event. After that window, any fees already paid will be applied towards a donation to the New York Harbor School. If you cannot make it, please send attempt to send someone in your place.
